Explore Over 200 Giant Sculptures At Buddha Park

Check out this bizarre tourist attraction filled with more than 200 giant sculptures of Buddhas, animals and even DEMONS. Located near the Mekong River in Laos, Buddha Park - known to locals as Xieng Khuan, which means 'Spirit City' - is a strange yet fascinating sight. Although not a temple, scattered across the park are many statues of Buddhas and characters from Hindu mythology, carved with intricate detail for tourists to explore. A three-story dome sees visitors enter through the gaping mouth of a demon before climbing up through the dark structure from 'Hell' to 'Earth' and eventually emerging at 'Heaven'. ‘Heaven’, on top of the dome, is a spectacular view at the rest of the park, including the 390-foot-long reclining Buddha which is the focal point of the park. The weathered concrete sculptures scattered throughout the park seem older than they are, but Buddha Park was put together in 1958 by a priest-shaman named Bunleua Sulilat.
