A 90-year-old blind grandmother had a beautiful, excitable reaction, when her son whispered into her ear that her granddaughter was paying her a visit for the first time in 20 years. Fiona Sowole, 30, stood just feet away from her grandmother Victoria Amoo when she was given the news. The moment marked the first time that Fiona, who lives in London, had returned to Nigeria to visit her grandmother, who lives in Lagos, in roughly two decades. During that time apart, Victoria lost her sight after unsuccessful cataract and glaucoma surgery, and a fall in the night caused her to suffer a stroke. Fiona and Victoria would speak regularly over the phone and on FaceTime, but after Victoria’s health issues, the need to visit became more real, Fiona said. When one of her closest friends was getting married in Nigeria, and knowing how much her grandma had been asking after her before her stroke, the Fiona knew she had to pay her a visit Fiona kept the visit secret from family members, and on May 10, she headed to her grandmother's home in Idimu, Lagos, with her cousin and uncle.
