Fearless Team Enter Gaza To Rescue Helpless Animals

A brave Brit and his team have spent the last two years rescuing thousands of animals and helping people in Ukraine, in an earthquake and now in Gaza. British-US charity Breaking the Chains was founded by Tom, 36, who doesn’t use his last name for security reasons, and his team operate in some of the most dangerous places on the planet. Like a cross between Rambo and the RSPCA, Tom and his dedicated colleagues have braved bombs, Russian missiles and collapsing quake-affected buildings all in pursuit of helping cats, dogs and other pets and domestic animals. During his time in Turkey distraught survivors would send images of their trapped pets to Tom and his team every day pleading for them to help. With incredible bravery the charity entered hundreds of dangerously unstable buildings and reunited over 400 cats with their owners. However, in Tom’s words their mission is to help “all living beings”, and in that spirit the charity has also set up a rehab centre for Ukrainian soldiers, helped with heart-breaking removals of bodies from buildings in Turkey in 2023 and now are assisting with humanitarian efforts on the ground in Gaza. Breaking the Chains is the only international animal organisation in the beleaguered territory. They have been working around the clock for two months with the help local animal organisation Sulala setting up treatment clinics. With almost no fuel available, donkeys and horses are now virtually the only way to deliver water, food and to get rid of waste in Gaza – the animals are vital for keeping the human population alive.
