Pregnant Med Student Graduates With Baby In Arms

A mom who raised her baby while also being pregnant during med school proudly carried her 15-month-old son across the graduation stage when she completed her studies. During her time at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., Adedamola Badewa raised her son, Zion, while pregnant with her daughter, Zarah. Adedamola, 29, from Dallas, Texas, said she and her husband had decided to grow their family during her medical training, and found out she was pregnant with her first child during her third year of study. This meant Adedamola carried out most of her third-year clinical studies while carrying her – admitting she underestimated just how exhausting the task would be. During her first trimester, Adedamola was on her surgical rotation, spending long hours on her feet while feeling nauseous, yet still showed up to every 12-hour shift. Having given birth to Zion at the end of her third year, Adedamola was then tasked with raising a newborn during her fourth and final year, which saw her create a specific study plan to work around her long nights, lack of sleep and childcare. Adding to this, she and Henry fell pregnant with their second child during her fourth year, which meant studying for her final examinations while raising a newborn and pregnant. This was just as "brutal" and tough as Adedamola had imagined, and so, having passed her exams, she was determined to show her sense of pride when heading across the graduation stage. Seven months pregnant at the time, Adedamola carried Zion in her arms as she crossed the stage, receiving a large round of applause in a moment that was captured on video.
