Military Dad Surprises Son With Mystery Reader Message

A four-year-old couldn't hide his delight when his soldier dad who was on deployment sent in an audio message to be their mystery reader. Oliver Malveaux is a 'mini close' of his father, Pierre, a sergeant first class with the United States Army, who he’d been sorely missing while deployed for the previous eight months. Pierre, 32, from Fort Carson, Colorado, missed many milestones in his son's life, having been deployed four times to the Middle East, once to the border, and on another rotation to South Korea. Knowing his son was feeling sad at school, but he wouldn’t be returning home for a few months, Pierre planned a surprise for his son in the meantime, with the help of his wife Molly. As Oliver loves his dad reading to him, Molly spoke to Oliver's teacher to ask if she could use the class Toniebox to play a recording as a mystery reader for the pre-k class. On October 10, the four-year-old was called up in front of his class, and when the character was placed on the box, a familiar voice was heard. "Oliver! What's up, Big Dog?" came his father's voice from the box, with Oliver immediately beaming a huge grin, and his classmates excitedly cheering and laughing at the message in delight.
