A pilot captured the moment he proposed to his high school sweetheart from his own point of view – using a pair of Meta glasses to secretly record the intimate moment as he got down on one knee. Idalid Lara and Nick Axtman, both 24, from Atlanta, Georgia, have been together since high school and said they knew from a young age that they wanted to marry each other one day. But the couple first decided to focus on their careers in their early 20s, with Idalid working toward a master’s degree and Nick pursuing his dream of becoming a pilot. With both of them soon reaching major milestones, Nick decided the timing was right to propose – and found a way to include his love of flying in the plan. He arranged to take Idalid on their first official flight together before landing at a local airport near Monteluce Winery in Dahlonega, Georgia. Nick told Idalid he would be wearing a pair of Meta glasses he had purchased, which did not raise any suspicions, as he had previously used them to record takeoffs, flights and landings during his training. On October 23, after capturing a few clips through the glasses while they were in the sky, Nick walked Idalid through the winery toward a large “Marry Me” sign on a small bridge over a pond. As golden hour began, Nick pressed record on the glasses, opened the ring box, got down on one knee and asked his high school sweetheart to marry him. The footage captured the proposal from Nick’s perspective, showing Idalid becoming emotional as he told her: “There's nothing I want more than to spend the rest of my life with you.”
