Fearless Otter Family Take On Pair Of Jaguars

A family of nine plucky otters take on two JAGUARS – leaving the big cats heading home with their tails between their legs. Fábio Mitsuka Paschoal, from Mato Grosso, Brazil, was looking for wildlife on July 21 in the Pantanal of Caceres, a remote sector of the world's largest tropical wetland, along the Paraguay River. He received an interesting radio call about jaguars and otters interacting nearby, so quickly rushed to the scene. There, Fábio discovered a moment he had to capture: the nine otters bobbing up and down in the water, standing their ground as the two jaguars snarled at them just a few feet away. The unique movement is known as ‘periscoping,’ and combined with sharp, noisy barks and aggressive lunges, the behavior signals to any threat that the pack is united and ready to defend their territory.
