A high school football team warmed the hearts of their community after heading straight from practice to build a much-needed ramp for a local boy with spina bifida. Five-year-old Maverick Middleton, from West Portsmouth, Ohio, has spina bifida affecting his spine and mobility and needs a wheelchair, causing him difficulties getting up and down the stairs to his home. After a pastor at a local church heard about his need for a ramp, members of the congregation offered to help, but building the ramp with just four people would have been difficult in the summer heat. But then senior Max Newsome, 18, who plays for the Portsmouth West High School football team, heard about the project and stepped up wanting to help. Max recruited nine extra members of his team, and after practice on July 13, they headed over to Maverick's home to get to work.
