Marine Amputee Allows Fishmonger To Toss Leg As If Prize Catch

This fun-loving ex-marine had crowds cheering at a local fish market, as he allowed a fish monger to toss his prosthetic leg just like a prized catch. Ryan Garza raised his hands in the air in delight after seeing a fish monger toss his leg to a colleague on the other side of the counter. Returning the favor, the fish monger at Pike Place Fish Market, in Seattle, Washington, then allowed Ryan to toss and catch a fish himself, which he successfully completed to rapturous applause. Ryan had joined the Marines in 2008, but in 2011, he was struck an I.E.D. while serving in Helmand Province in Afghanistan. The explosion resulted in the 32-year-old from San Antonio, Texas, breaking eight bones, dislocating 13 and, having spent 13 months in a Navy hospital, eventually losing his leg. Since then, Ryan has been looking to spread the positive message that, despite such injuries, we can always control our responses to them.
