A man who had accepted he would never be a dad and had committed to being the best possible stepfather could not believe his eyes when his wife surprised him with her pregnancy news. 37-year-old Lorenz Stefan, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, had always shared a special bond with his wife Blanca's children, Jazelle, 15, and Aria, 8. Stefan would tell everyone that the pair were his daughters, Blanca said, and having taken the siblings to wrestling matches and softball games, the 37-year-old was committed to "earning the father title." With such a strong bond with his stepdaughters, Lorenz, considering age and factors like work-life schedules, had accepted that he likely would not become a dad to his own children. But one day, having felt extra emotional and nauseous, Blanca decided to take a pregnancy test and was stunned to discover a positive result. "Everything slowed down," Blanca said, but she couldn't wait to tell her husband the good news. At a Valentine's Day meal at a Japanese restaurant, Blanca secretly set her phone to record as she handed her husband a gift. Lorenz initially looked confused – the couple had agreed no gifts – but when he was encouraged to open the package, he discovered a baby grow that broke the good news. The 37-year-old could not believe his eyes, welling up from the shock before placing his head on his wife's shoulder from the heavy emotion of the moment.
